SLOAN, Iowa -- Alice Marion Jenkins, 85, Sloan entered rest Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Community Church of Christ at Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Alice Marion Byers was born Jan. 28, 1925, in a farm house northwest of Sloan, the daughter of Allison and Alice Laverne (Linkswiler) Byers. She was raised and attended school in the Sloan area.

Alice and Glenn Jenkins were united in marriage on Jan. 28, 1946, and ten children were born to this union, five daughters and five sons. The couple moved to a farm east of Sloan in 1947, where they raised their children and maintained their residency. This farm became a Century Farm in 1979. Alice was a housewife and homemaker. She also worked at Zenith for ten years and Interbake Foods for ten years before retiring in 1990.

Alice derived great joy out of spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also greatly loved and enjoyed the family pet, "Peanut".

Survivors include her husband, Glenn of Sloan; her children, Glenn Jr. (Mitchiko) of Sergeant Bluff, Douglas of Salix, Iowa, Phillip (Linda), and Roger (Blanche) all of Sloan, Betty (Steve) Hickman of Faribault, Minn., Charlotte Hemmrich of Overland Park, Kan., Lester (special friend, Lisa Arklan) of Whiting, Iowa, Karen Jenkins and Leann Jenkins, both of Sloan; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Eyer of Sloan and Beverly Jenkins of Soux City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first born child, Joann Jenkins in 2006; two brothers, Clarence and Donald Byers; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a niece; and two nephews.

Alice touched the lives of all she knew and was deeply loved. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her memories and beautiful smile will live in our hearts forever.
