30 May 2004BRONSON, Iowa -- Rochelle M. "Shelly" Petit, 52, of Bronson passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with Lorna Peters, Chaplain, Hospice of Siouxland officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Rochelle "Shelly" Petit was born May 19, 1952 in Sioux City, the daughter of Wayne A. and Delores F. (Gill) Skidmore. She was a graduate of Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa.
She married Wayne V. Petit on June 4, 1977 at Elk Point, S.D. Shelly was employed with Gill Electric at one time and later with Iowa Better Trucking Bureau. For the past several years, she operated a licensed daycare, was a waitress at J.R.'s in Bronson and answered phones for both Bronson Fire Department and Buy-Rite Pallets.
Shelly enjoyed bingo, crocheting, knitting and floral gardening, but mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne; a daughter, Kristie Amick and her husband, Jamie of Bronson; two sons, Gilbert "Pede" Downing and his wife, Cheri of Bronson and Shawn Petit and his wife, Sunny of Sergeant Bluff; her mother, Delores Skidmore of Onawa, Iowa; her maternal grandmother, Fern Godsey of Onawa; her mother-in-law, Marion Petit of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren, Devan Amick, Brady Petit and Beau Petit; a brother, Timothy Skidmore and his wife, Kathy of Salix, Iowa; two sisters, Pam Handke and her husband, Burton of Bronson and Trina Beck and her husband, Bill of Onawa; an uncle, Richard Gill and his wife, Nancy of Flagstaff, Ariz; a sister-in-law, Sharon Fisher and her husband, Bobby of Bronson; a brother-in-law, Mark Petit of Hornick, Iowa; special friends, Bill and Alice Ross of Bronson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Skidmore; her maternal grandfather, Edward Gill; and her father-in-law, Vernon Petit.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Timothy Skidmore, Amr Ibrahim, Corey Handke, Matt Handke, Andy Beck, Brett Fisher, Adam Petit and Chuck Ferris. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Gordon, Jason Herbst, Barry Jessen and Mike Vennard.
