Clifford T. "Cliff" Peterson, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Clifford T. Peterson was born April 2, 1917, in Lawton, Iowa, the son of Gustaf H. and Mary H. (Goldsmith) Peterson. He attended school and graduated from Lawton High School.

He married Eileen C. Hansel on Sept. 17, 1940, in Sioux City, where the couple made their home. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1944. He returned to Sioux City and went to work for Roe Dairy. Later, he worked for Culligan and Murray Insurance Agency. He then worked for Sherwin Williams in Sioux City, where he retired. After retirement, he went back to school and obtained his stationary engineer license. He worked for Goodwill Industries for 10 years. He also was a substitute custodian for the Sioux City School District.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Sioux City Optimist Club, Izaak Walton League and the Senior Citizen's Center. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, making crafts, attending garage sales, camping and being a sag driver for RAGBRAI.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen C. of Sioux City; two daughters, Nancy Peterson of Sioux City and Kristine and her husband, Steven Shults, of Sioux City; a son and his wife, John T. and Nancy Peterson of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren, Karissa and her husband, Jon Warkentin, Tom Shults and his wife, Rhonda, Jenna Peterson and Ethan Peterson; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Shataya, Grace and Gabriel Warkentin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Louis and Albert; and three sisters, Emma, Helen and Mildred.

Pallbearers will be Steven Shults, Jack Hansel, Michael Hansel, Patrick Hansel, Jon Warkentin and Tom Shults.

Memorials in his name may be directed to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
