27 March 2004MOVILLE, Iowa -- Virgil Olson, 75, of Moville died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa.
Virgil William Olson was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Walter and Lillian (Hageman) Olson. Virgil graduated from Lawton High School in 1946, and entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 20, 1951, serving in the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 28, 1953, during the Korean War.
He married Sue Trice on Sept. 30, 1962, in South Sioux City. Virgil farmed most of his life in the Lawton and Moville area. He and his wife, Sue, also ran the restaurants City Cafe and Moville Steakhouse for 20 years.
Virgil's joy in life was farming and his two granddaughters, Tracy and Tera.
Survivors are his wife, Sue of Moville; two sons, Kenneth of Chicago, Ill., and Richard of Platte, S.D.; three sisters, Virginia Smith and her husband, Doyle of Lawton, Minnetta Schweitzberger and her husband, Kenneth of Kingsley, and Marlis Friesner of Sioux City; two granddaughters as well as 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Laura Trice; and a great-nephew, Dustin Nitzscke.
