LAWTON, Iowa -- M. Richard McNaughton, 89, of Lawton died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. McNaughton was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Lawton, the son of Willard and Maude B. (Joseph) McNaughton. He grew up and attended school in Lawton. He had been a life long resident of Lawton.

He was united in marriage to Betty Louise Junck on June 4, 1941, in South Sioux City. He was a life long farmer.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served on the church board. He was a 4-H leader for the Banner Boosters for 22 years and served in the Woodbury County Fair board. He was a life time member of the Angus Association and participated in exhibiting Angus cattle at numerous major stock shows. He served on the board of directors of the Federal Land Bank for 12 years. He was a licensed pilot and a founding member of the Lawton Airport. He was a member of the Lawton Flying Club for 20 years and the Flying Farmers of America. He served as a committee member of the 4th of July committee, served as the 2004 Centennial king, was a stunt skydiver and was a hobo parade clown. He was a member of the 500 Card Club and a strong supporter of the Lawton-Bronson Little League program.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Lawton; two daughters, Barbette McNaughton of Omaha and Jeanine and her husband, Stanley Chartier of Lawton; six sons, Merrill McNaughton and his wife, Shirley of Le Mars, Iowa, Dr. Clifford McNaughton and his wife, Nancy of Sioux Falls, S.D., Craig McNaughton and his wife, Kristine of Lawton, W. Brian McNaughton of Lawton, Richard McNaughton of Lawton and Curtis McNaughton and his wife, Kristine of Lawton; a sister and her husband, Ruby and Douglas Johnson of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Janet McNaughton of Kingsley, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy Kennett, Margie Maude and two infant sisters; and a brother, Raynard H. McNaughton.
