LAWTON, Iowa -- Frank Chapman Law Jr., 80, of Lawton died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by family.

Services were Thursday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with Chaplain Lorna Peters officiating. Burial was in Lawton Cemetery, Banner Township, Lawton, with graveside military honors under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Frank was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Lawton, the son of Frank Sr. and Jennie (Jones) Law. He was raised and attended school near Lawton.

He married Betty Marie Haney on April 16, 1944, at the Law family homestead. In the same year, Frank entered the U.S. Marines. He served and fought in World War II in the South Pacific. He served as acting sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was wounded and decorated during the invasion of the island of Okinawa. He received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation.

He returned from war in 1946 and enjoyed working the family homestead. He served as a park ranger for Stone, Backbone and Maquoketa Caves State Parks from 1952 to 1957. After returning to Lawton, he dedicated the next 30-plus years of his life to the Lawton-Bronson School District, where he served as supervisor of bus, grounds and maintenance until retiring in 1988.

After retirement, Frank enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, camping and fishing, dancing with his wife and performing with the Dancing Grandmas and Grandpas. He also remained active as a member of the American Legion, Lawton Presbyterian Church and worked part time for the Lawton-Bronson Community School District. He cherished spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and lifelong friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty of Lawton, to whom he was devoted for 60-plus years; his son, Richard and his wife, Patricia, their daughter, Michelle and her husband, Steve and their daughter, Ashleigh; his son, Ronald and his wife, Laurie, their children, Chris, Tonia and her husband, John, Alyssa, Jared and his fiancee, Kelli; a son, Thomas and his wife, Tara, their children, Travis and Tabetha; a brother, Don and his wife, Mary Lou; a sister, Doris Monckton; a brother-in-law, Robert Haney and his wife, Marley; a special sister-in-law, Lola and Gene Anderson and family; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Jennie Law; and a sister, Dorothy Barnes
