LAWTON, Iowa -- R. Elaine Hinrichs, 82, of Lawton died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton. Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

R. Elaine Hinrichs was born May 9, 1921, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Anthony and Lora Mae (Ford) Walter. She attended Lawton High School and graduated in 1939.

She married Robert Hinrichs on Dec. 25, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She had lived in the Lawton area her entire life. She was a homemaker.

Elaine was a member and attended Bethel Lutheran Church all of her married life. Probably one of her greatest accomplishments was being a Sunday school teacher for 38 years. She was also actively involved in the Ladies Aid Club and the Variety Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda and her husband, Vernon Brice of Lawton; two sons and their wives, Robert and Jolene Hinrichs of Sigourney, Iowa, and Larry and Barbara Hinrichs of Lawton; a sister, Wanda Thrash of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Harry Walter of Hilo, Hawaii, and Arley Walter of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, Wendy (Kevin) Mills, David Brice, Kristi (Dr. Jeffrey) Larsen, Martin (Suzi) Hinrichs, Kara (Dan) Thompson, Mara (Rick) Scott, Shara (Kendal) Thompson and Darin Hinrichs; and six great-grandchildren, Max, Preston, Jordan, Jacy, Jade and Parker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; a brother, Vernon Walter; and a granddaughter, Lara Hinrichs.
