LAWTON, Iowa -- Bruce Burdell Anderson, 81, of Lawton passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Church of Christ in Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Mr. Anderson was born in Sioux City on March 4, 1925, the son of Magnus B. and Anna (Hendrickson) Anderson. He graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School in Lawton. He served his country during World War II from 1941 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Barnstable.

He was united in marriage to Anna Spoonemore in 1946. The couple lived near Lawton their entire lives. He worked as an independent truck driver for many years, working for various construction companies in the Siouxland area.

He was a member of the Lawton American Legion Post 178. He is fondly remembered by his family as an excellent mechanic who loved hunting, fishing and photography. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather who always was there to lend his helping hand to those who needed it.

Survivors include his wife, Anna of Lawton; two sons and their wives, Bruce A. and Cathy Anderson and Robert M. and Debbie Anderson, all of Lawton; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lyall; and two sisters, Joyce and Betty.
