Anthon, Iowa—Wayne G. Buck, 70, of Anthon, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept., 8, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at Church of Christ in Anthon, with Gregg Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Buck was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Cherokee, the son of Gilbert and Mildred (Brownmiller) Buck. He attended school in Anthon, graduating in 1947. He served in the armed Force during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he attended Morningside College in Sioux City. He was employed as a electrical lineman in Texas and New Mexico for several years.

He married Hulda Paul on Aug. 7, 1959, in Lehigh, Iowa. The couple moved to Cherokee in 1961. He was employed with Northwestern Bell in Cherokee on central office equipment for 37 years, retiring in 1990. They moved to Anthon in 1990.

He was a member of First Church of Christ in Cherokee and Church of Christ in Anthon. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Telephone Company Pioneers. He enjoyed golfing and was active in the Little League Association

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Jacqueline and Michael Whyte of San Diego, Rita and Karl Pearson and Anita and David Cougill, all of Aurelia, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Harry and Amy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Frank and Glenda of England; 11 grandchildren, Tracy, Tabitha and Jeremy Greene, Joshua, Buck, Steven and Andrew Rupp, Luke and Mindy Pearson, Jennifer, Jill and Jessica Cougill; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Gibbs of Mesa, Ariz.; and a brother and his wife, Veryle and Nancy of Chino Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a son, Steve..
