SIOUX CITY | Ruth E. Newton, 90, of Sioux City was welcomed into heaven Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at a local hospital surrounded by family.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Ruth was born on Nov. 20, 1922, in Beresford, S.D., the daughter of Christian and Kristen (Tanderup) Anderson. She grew up on a farm near Beresford, graduating from Beresford High School in 1940.

Ruth married Charles Newton on Aug. 19, 1945. Ruth worked at Wincharger during World War II. After the war, she was a homemaker and a childcare provider. Charles died on June 5, 2004.

Ruth lived humbly, sharing her faith with all she met. Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her children, Elaine (Roupe) and Robert Miller of Sioux City, Laurie and Bill Dimmitt of Yankton, S.D., Kenneth and Bonni Newton of Clive, Iowa, and Carolyn and John Masmer of Dexter, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Walk of San Diego, Calif.; and a god child, Roberta Anderson of San Diego.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a brother, James Anderson; and a son-in-law, David Roupe.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund
