SIOUX CITY | Jack Leonard Ryan, 71, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Mr. Ryan will be cremated following the visitation, and graveside memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Jack was born in Sioux City on June 29, 1941, the son of Thomas L. and Violet Leola (Berden) Ryan. He attended Sioux City Community Schools. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Jack worked for the city of Sioux City for more than 30 years before retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, painting ceramics, working on jigsaw puzzles, as well as reading western books, doing carpentry projects and watching James Bond movies. He cherished the time he could play with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Sioux City; his son, Douglas Ryan and his wife, Roni of Sioux City; his daughters, Heather Ryan and Becky McWilliams, both of Sioux City; a brother, Gary Ryan and his special friend, Shirley of Sioux City; two sisters, Norma Blue and her husband, Eugene of Sioux City, and Betty Hitchcock of Sergeant Bluff. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
