SIOUX CITY | Elden W. Olson, 72, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in Sioux City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Sowers officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Elden was born on Aug. 9, 1940, in Yankton, S.D., the son of Wilmer and Minnie (Harts) Olson. He graduated from high school in Meckling, S.D. Elden continued his education in the art of welding. He entered the U.S. Army in October 1963 and was honorably discharged in October 1965.

Elden married Lana Brunke on Feb. 11, 1967. They made their home in Sioux City. Elden worked at Roe Dairy and Toledo Scales. He then worked at Knox Gelatin for more than 32 years, retiring in November 2006. He was a dedicated husband, who took care of his wife throughout her illness. Lana died on March 14, 2012.

Elden was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and having breakfast with his friends. Elden enjoyed gardening, woodworking, working on his cars, traveling, truck pulls and watching the old thrashers at work. He had donated more than six gallons of blood.

He is survived by two daughters, Jill Garner of Topeka, Kan., and Amy and Matt Wieber of St. Cloud, Minn.; three grandchildren, Alex Garner, Jack Wieber and Evelyn Wieber; a brother, Don and Jane Olson of Vermillion, S.D.; a sister, Aileen Hendrickson of Baltimore, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lana; and an infant brother.
