SIOUX CITY -- Barbara A. Prochello, 69, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, after a lengthy battle with COPD and emphysema.

Following cremation, a funeral Mass celebrating Barb's life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder as celebrant. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a rosary at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Barb resided at Holy Spirit Retirement Home during her last days, where she quickly endeared herself to the staff with her quick wit and jokes. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She was born Dec. 19, 1941, to Robert and Lucille Moughan. Barb graduated from Central High School and in recent years treasured the rekindled friendships of her Central High classmates, her "coffee girls."

She married James Prochello on Sept. 24, 1960 at St. Boniface in Sioux City, and they had three children before divorcing in 1972. During her early work years, Barb worked various positions in Sioux City including Holtze Construction, Zenith, IBP, Coffee King and H&B Electric. In more recent years she cleaned houses for many people in Sioux City, who became more than clients to her, they became true friends.

The last position she held was at Wal-Mart where she could be found most days working at the pay station. Even after she retired and would visit the store, employees and customers alike would greet her warmly and let her know how much she was missed.

Family was most important to Barb and the pride and love she had for her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family was clearly evident to anyone who had a conversation with her. Her faith became very important to her in recent years and she truly felt blessed, viewing her illness as a gift that brought her back to God. Heaven will never be the same.

Barb is survived by three children, Marc Prochello and his wife Sharon of Goodyear, Ariz., David Prochello and his wife Julie of Dakota Dunes, and Lori Twohig and her husband David of Sioux City; a sister, Patricia Paradise and her husband Jim of Denver, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Richard Ballantyne of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Sholeh Prochello, Mia Prochello, Andrew, John and Luke Prochello and Brianna, Molly, Stephanie, Jacob and Grace Twohig; as well as one niece, Stacia (Paradise) Vairma; and six nephews, Michael, Jay, Kelly and Shawn McLeran and Christopher and Joshua Paradise.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Lucille Moughan and a sister, Jeanne (McLeran) Ballantyne.
