Darrel was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Holly Springs, Iowa, the son of Guido and Sarah (Devine) Parsley. Darrel grew up on a farm near Sloan, Iowa, and graduated from Sloan High School in 1947 where he was very athletic and excelled in basketball and baseball.

Darrel married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Smith on Oct. 21, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. They raised their family on a farm near Salix, where he farmed for 17 years. Darrel retired at the age of 75 after 40 years of service, but continued to do special projects for Nutra-Flo, primarily building tables for the Green Egg.

Darrel was a jack-of-all-trades, anything that had a problem, he could find a solution. He enjoyed making wrought iron railings, stained glass, fishing, gardening and especially attending his grandkids sporting events. Darrel was a quiet, hardworking, loving husband and family man.
