SIOUX CITY | Bobby Joe Jensen, 77, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at a local hospital following a courageous battle with ALS.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Armand J. Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Bobby was born on March 14, 1935, in Sioux City, the son of Anton S. and Gretchen M. (Horner) Jensen. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1953 to August 1957.

He married Betty Cobb and to this union three daughters were born. Betty preceded him in death in 1986. Bobby then met and married Mary Kathleen Carroll on Jan. 3, 1987 in Sioux City.

Bobby worked as a fabrication welder for Concrete Pipe for 21 years before working for Nutra Turf and Jay Lawn. He finally worked the transportation unit of the Sioux City School System. He received his education through Western Iowa Tech Community College.

Bobby had many hobbies including woodworking, yard work, and crafts. His greatest love was music. Bobby recorded many albums and had country music band for 48 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagles Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathleen Jensen; three daughters, Gerri (Monty) Stoltze of Springfield, Mo., Vickie (Mike Fritz) Jensen of South Sioux City, and Connie (Larry) Young of Sioux City; four stepdaughters, Maureen (James) Fisher of VanMeter, Iowa, Kim Boham of Omaha, Michele (Brian) Cahill of Overland Park, Kan., and Colleen (Dr. Scott) Sneller of Sioux City; four grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pam Simpkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty; and two sisters, Peggy (Don) Olson and Beverly (Sam) Baum.

Pallbearers will be Monty Stoltze, Mike Fritz, Larry Young, Jim Fisher, Kevin Boham, Scott Sneller and Brian Cahill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or the Veteran’s Affair Association.
