SIOUX CITY | George W. Hall, 82 of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Military rites will be performed by the U.S. Army. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com

George was born May 18, 1930, in Mower, Minn, the son of George and Amy (Adkins) Hall. The family moved to Mason City when George was a child, and he grew up there. He joined the U.S. Army in 1947 and served three tours in the Korean conflict and one tour in Germany. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1967. He then worked for the state of Iowa as a cornerstone surveyor for eight years.

George married Beverly J. Schultz on Jan. 23, 1956, in Mason City.

George enjoyed camping, family bike rides and inventing tools. He developed and patented a measuring centering instrument for survey.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Sioux City; three children, Edward W. Hall and his wife Melissa of Bossier City, La., Donald W. Hall of Grand Island, Neb., and Nancy P. Brodersen and her husband David of Sioux City; two brothers, Keith Hall of Mason City and Melvin Hall and his wife Roylene of Shreveport, La.; eight grandchildren, Michaela, Daniel, Jessica, Elizabeth, May Anne, Sarah, Nicholas and Samantha; and seven great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Casseday; and a brother, Stanley Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Food Bank of Siouxland or the Boys and Girls Home of Siouxland.
