SIOUX CITY -- Louise Dorothy Hofling Sherrick, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lorene Glant officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Louise was born Jan. 19, 1923, in the Akron, Iowa area, the daughter of Daniel Ulvog and Lydia (Ven). She grew up in rural Akron and graduated from Centerville School.

She married Isadore Gerard Hofling II in Nebraska. To this marriage five children were born, Louise, Daniel Edward, Gregory Allen, Susan Louise and Isadore Gerard III. Isadore passed away in 1967. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital and was an Amway representative.

She married George Sherrick in 1969 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. George passed away in 1994. Louise then moved to Onawa, Iowa, to live with her son, Daniel on Blue Lake. After his death, she moved back to Sioux City and to Countryside Senior Apartments. She then moved to Northern Hills and finally to Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She loved gardening and won ribbons at the fair for her beautiful works. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a past member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, sewing club, Girls of 68 and Sons of Norway. She was a member of the kitchen band and entertained many people.

She is survived by a son, Gregory (Iris) Hofling of Sioux City; a daughter, Susan (Mark) Rochester of Sioux City; a son, Isadore (fiancee, Melissa Gandy) Hofling of Wichita, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Olaf (Mavis) Ulvog, Daniel (Teri) Ulvog, and James (Betty) Ulvog; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Isadore Hofling and George Sherrick; an infant daughter, Anna Louise; her son, Daniel; her sisters, Alice Strand and Clarice Monaham; and her brothers, Gilbert Ulvog and Carl Ulvog.

Pallbearers will be Roger Stolen, Richard Goff, Marion Kryger, Charles Jongeling, Erik Ulvog and Mike Salmen.

Memorials may be directed to the Gospel Mission Women's Shelter.
