SIOUX CITY -- Leo J. Larkin Jr., 78, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital with his family by his side.

Abiding by Leo's wishes, the body will be cremated. There will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be posted at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Leo was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Sioux City, the son of Leo J. and Louise (Peterson) Larkin Sr. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, from April 1951 to April 1955.

Leo married Lois LeMoine Jan. 28, 1956, in South Sioux City.

He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He served as a firefighter on the Sioux City Fire Department for 13 years. Following that, he was self employed for numerous years.

Leo was his own person. He was funny and had a unique sense of humor, even being sarcastic at times. He was a busy person and enjoyed woodworking, drawing, models, model trains, camping, hunting and fixing antique cars. He loved duct tape and often said, "There is no place duct tape could not be used."

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Sioux City; four children, Steven Larkin of Sioux City, Jackie Williamson of Athens, Ga., Denise Brink of Sioux City and Mark (Lori) Larkin of Sergeant Bluff; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Ashley) Larkin, Carol (Colby) White, Corey Larkin (Amanda Stusse), Tyler Embler, Steven Embler, Kenny Williamson, Sammy Williamson, Kaylee Carlberg, Allison Carlberg and Lane Larkin; and three great-grandchildren, Tristen, Kayden and Tyler Larkin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Wheeler.
