Joye Krager, 88, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sioux City Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Pointer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Joye was born on Dec. 17, 1924, in Decatur, Neb. She was the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Pounds) Brewer. She was raised on a farm in Nebraska and later moved to Omaha, where she graduated from South High School in 1942.

On Nov. 28, 1944, she married William Krager Sr. in Omaha. Joye and Bill were married for 44 years until Bill passed away in December 1988. The family lived in Omaha, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Harlan, Iowa, and moved to Sioux City in 1954. While in Omaha, Joye worked for the Omaha Board of Education and Georgie Porgie Popcorn Co. After moving to Sioux City, she ran a daycare out of her home. In early 1970, Joye went to work for the Sioux City Journal in the circulation department and retired in Apri1 1990.

She was an active member of the Sioux City Baptist Church for 27 years. Joye was an avid bowler, bowling in local leagues and also in state and national tournaments. She enjoyed sewing and was a devoted "Cubbies" fan. Joye did volunteer work at St. Luke’s Medical Center. She was an amazing woman, who loved her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by three sons, Raymond of Sioux City, Dennis (Cindy) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and William Jr. “Billy” of Sioux City; three daughters, Donna (Charlie) Hild of Clinton, Conn., Connie (Robert) Hamilton and Glenda (Ernie) Olson, all of Sioux City; her grandchildren, Kim (Paul) Anderson, Kirk (Holly) Hamilton and Jennifer (Darwin) Dixon; three stepgranddaughters; two stepgrandsons; great-grandchildren, Brandi Turkleson, Brooke (Thomas) Hindman, Troy Turkleson, Andrew Marcotte, Gracelynn Hamilton, Kale Hamilton; a future great-great-grandson to be born in February 2013; sisters, Iris Todd of Omaha and Rita Johnson of Phillips Ranch, Calif.; and brother, Glenn Brewer of Logan, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; twin grandsons; three sisters, Fern Jacobson, Ann Guarino and Florine Tatro; and a brother at birth.

A memorial has been established in her name and may be directed to the family.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in ICU and the 4th floor at St. Luke's Hospital for their excellent care of our precious mother and also a special thank you to Hospice of Siouxland for all of their caring support.
