Nolan W. “Red” Serviss, 78, of Sioux City passed away Dec. 24, 2012, at his residence.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Collins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel-Christy–Smith Funeral Homes.

Red was born Oct. 20, 1934, to Emery and Gladys (Bolte) Serviss in Sioux City. He grew up and attended Sioux City schools. He has been a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area.

He served in the United States Army from 1957–1959

He married Stella Jean Van Every on March 4, 1958, in Sioux City.

Red was employed with Cudahy Packing Co. and Armour & Co. until they closed the Sioux City locations. He later worked for W.A. Klinger Co. for 20 years and later owned and operated Serviss Lawn Care Co. for 18 years until he retired.

He was of the Lutheran faith. His greatest loves in life were his family, taking care of his customers, doing lawn care, giving tractor rides, visiting with friends and being a chauffeur.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Serviss of Sioux City; two daughters, Tammy and Michael Asher of Kernersville, N.C., and Teresa and Dan Leonard of Salix, Iowa; two sons, Rick Serviss and Ellie Benson of Sioux City, and Leslie Serviss of Sioux City; foster son, Douglas and Jessica Sliter of Sioux City; one brother, Jim Serviss of Aurelia, Iowa; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Gretchen Van Every of Sioux City; special friend, Gale Jessip of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Rodger Serviss; his father-in-law; sister-in–law, Peggy; a niece; and a nephew.
