Lee William Schroeder, 53, of Anthon died Saturday, Dec. 1, at the age of 53 years, 1 month, 6 days, as the result of injuries sustained in an airplane crash south of Correctionville.

He was born Oct. 25, 1959, at Battle Creek, one of eight children born to Leo and Bernice (Riesberg) Schroeder. He grew up and lived almost all his life at Oto, attending Anthon-Oto School. In his youth he was proud to serve as a Boy Scout. After high school, Lee worked at Oto Grain for 10 years and another five years at Holly Industries in Holly Springs.

Lee was united in marriage to Lori Carter April 21, 1979, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute. They made their home in rural Oto where they raised their three daughters. In March of 2010, Lee and Lori moved to their current home in Anthon.

In 1992, Lee completed college at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City and ventured out to establish his own business. Schroeder Electric was a successful operation that serviced many surrounding communities.

Lee was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oto, serving there as an altar boy, Eucharistic minister, lector, and recently became one of those responsible for St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Along with his daily duties, Lee worked as the Woodbury County Fair electrician for more than 15 years. He was a dedicated volunteer in the area serving 30 years on the Oto Ambulance, the Oto Fire Department, and numerous years on the Anthon Fire and Rescue Unit; responsibilities he took very seriously. Additionally, Lee contributed to his community each year at Christmas.

Socially, Lee and Lori enjoyed line dancing while following the country music of Darin and Leslie Hagerdon. In more recent years, they were dedicated to camping with their friends. They grouped with those that could come on weekends at various local parks, making an annual stay at Mahoney State Park and the annual Father’s Day camp out with the Schroeder Family. Each camp out provided cherished memories with friends and family involving bon fires, cooking all their food outdoors and many late night conversations.

Lee is lovingly held in the hearts of his family, Lori, his wife of 33 years; their three daughters, Bethany Marshall and her husband, Ryan, of Murrieta, Calif., Abby Schroeder and her significant other, Carl Laws, of Sioux City, and Renae Grell and her husband, Randy, also of Sioux City; his mother, Bernice Schroeder of Oto; seven grandchildren, Jocelyn, Cole, Landon, Brayden, Aaliyah, Koen and Katrina; four sisters, Pearl Kilzer and her husband, Charlie of Sioux City, Joyce Traver and her husband, Randy, of Climbing Hill, Carol Schroeder of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Susan Kluver of Oto; three brothers, Loren Schroeder and his wife, Pam, of Sergeant Bluff, Lyle Schroeder of Smithland, and Pat Schroeder of Moville; his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Sharon Pope of Sloan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sheryl Schelm and her husband, Brett, of Climbing Hill, Brian Carter of Dunlap, Randy Carter and his wife, Melly of Ridgeland, S.C., and Noel Dubsky and her husband, Darren of Omaha, Neb.; and grandmother-in-law, Arlene Kiepe of Denison; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many good friends on all levels.
