SIOUX CITY | Warren Dale Forsling, 85, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at his home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Military honors will conclude the service. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be the hour prior to the service at church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements. Warren was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Sioux City, to Samuel and Helga (Bowman) Forsling. He grew up and graduated from Central High School. He served as a Navy Seabee during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

On Jan. 21, 1949, he married Rosemary Porter in Sioux City. He worked for MidAmerican Energy Company until his retirement. He worked for the stagehands union and enjoyed the comradery and meeting the performers.

He was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973, Landmark Lodge 103, the Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies, Abu Bekr Shrine and the Oriental Band.

Warren was a very knowledgeable war historian and an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Rosemary; a son, Craig Forsling; two daughters, Melinda Trobaugh and her husband Steven and Marcy Forsling-Stenwall, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Kim Forsling (Joe Japel), Aaron Forsling (Shanan Notz), Wesley Forsling, Kirsten (D.J.) Wynn, Benton (Nicole) Quade and Rosalie Stenwall; two stepgrandchildren, Derek (Alicia) Trobaugh and Alicia (Matt) Niemann; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bethel Jean (Forsling) Nettleton of Sioux City.

Memorials may be made in his name to Augustana Lutheran Church or the V.F.W. Post 1973.
