SIOUX CITY | Ardis M. Cord, 96, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at her residence comforted by family.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. A private interment will take place prior to the service on Thursday morning. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present at 6 p.m., and an Eastern Star service beginning at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ardis was born on Sept. 18, 1916, in Hornick, Iowa, to Ralph and Mary (Becker) Woods. She graduated from Holly Springs Consolidated School in 1933 and attended Edwards School of Business in Sioux City. Ardis worked as an assistant bookkeeper for Flanley Grain Company.

Ardis married James E. Cord on Nov. 25, 1947, in Sioux City. The couple owned and operated Michael’s Seed Store and Michael’s Garden Center in Sioux City for 25 years. They also owned and operated Michael’s Christmas Trees for more than 50 years before her retirement in 2001.

She was a proud 50-year member of First United Methodist Church and was active with the women’s organizations with the church, a 50-year member of Rose Croix Chapter of the Eastern Star, and a 50-year member of Chapter GZ of P.E.O. Ardis enjoy membership to the Emerson Stucy Club, was a DeMolay Mother, a board member of the Rainbow Girls, and served on the board at the Y.W.C.A.

Ardis is survived by her son, Charles Cord of Des Moines; daughter, Jean Hofmann and her husband, Paul of Battle Creek, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Katy Kelton and her husband, Josh, Chet Hofmann and his wife, Shannon, Christy Marshall and her husband, Kenny, Marty Hofmann and his wife, Ginger, Amybeth Hancock and her husband, Justin, McKenzie Peta and her husband, Chad, Tommy Hofmann, Peter Hofmann and his wife, Whitney, Molly Hofmann and Mick Hofmann; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 2006; and brother, Warren Woods.

Memorials may be offered to First United Methodist Church or to the Cord Memorial Library in Danbury, Iowa.
