HORNICK, Iowa — Ivan A. Madsen, 86, of Hornick died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Maple Heights Care Center in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be at 2. p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Hornick with the Rev. Jay Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery in Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Madsen was born on March 26, 1914 in rural Hornick, the son of Walter and Millie (Skow) Madsen. He attended Brown Country School and graduated from Hornick High School in 1931. He married June Forney on Feb. 28,1940, in Sloan.

They farmed and raised livestock near Hornick until retiring in 1980 and moving into Hornick.

Mrs. Madsen died on Feb. 2, 1988 in Hornick.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hornick and served on the Holly Springs Hornick school board and the Hornick Coop board of directors. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, traveling, gardening, swimming, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Richard and Bonnie of Woodinville, Wash., Larry and Shirlene of Ulysses, Kan., Robert and Jane and Jeffrey and Gayle of Hornick; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Arnold; two sisters, Jenny Carr and Vera Kilzer.
