Burdette Murl Bogenrief, 93, of Beatrice and formerly of Woodbury County, Iowa, died Thursday, December 29, 2011, at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona.

Services were held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice with Rev. Jon Bailey officiating. Edna Schmidt served as organist with congregational singing.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Dylan Bogenrief, Jesse Bogenrief, Kyle Kreger, Kent Krager and Casey Krager. Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson, Iowa, performed by the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley with full military rites.

He was born December 26, 1918, in Litchville, N.D. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 1942 to January 1946 as an aviation metal smith first class.

He married Evelyn Grabe on September 28, 1948. They farmed in Woodbury County from 1950 until 1990. Evelyn died in April 1990, On February 16, 1991, he married Mable Weaver Young. They resided in Beatrice from 1991 until the present time. For the past 20 years, they wintered in Mesa, AZ.

He loved his family, being a father, woodworking, stained glags work, yard work, visiting and playing cards, dominoes with Nebraska and Arizona friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Bogenrief of Beatrice; sister, Bernice Vannorsdel of Kingsley, IA; daughter, Deborah Krager and husband, Dennis of Holstein, Iowa; son, Daryl Bogenrief and wife, Nancy of Correctionville, IA; Mable's sons, Gary Weaver of Indianapolis, IN; and Loyd Weaver and wife, Amy of Smithville, MO; Mable's daughter, Kathy Rief and husband, Mike of Shelby, NE; grandchildren, Kyle Krager and wife, Kristi of Cushing, IA; Kent Krager and wife, Kaki of Clive, IA; Casey Krager and wife, Molly of Prairie Village, KS; Dylan Bogenrief of Ames, IA, Jesse Bogenrief of Correctionville; Mable's grandchildren, Ben Weaver of Indianapolis, Holly Fenech and husband Joe of Short Hills, NJ, Alex Weaver and wife, Jennifer of Columbus, OH, Jessica Stegeman and husband, Michael of Millersville, MD; Nathan Weaver of Smithville, MO, Matt Rief and wife, Ann of St. Paul, NE, Susan McKee and husband, Kyle of Blue Springs, MO; Stacy Jacobs and husband, Ryan of Wisner, NE, Joni Smith and husband Damian of Lincoln, NE, Scott Rief and wife, Mindy of Grand Island, NE; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murl and Myrtle (Lorenzen) Bogenrief; first wife, Evelyn (Grabe) Bogenrief; brother, Delbert Bogenrief; brother-in-law, Donald Vannorsdel; sister-in-law, Sheryl Bogenrief.
