SIOUX CITY | Coleen Mary (Lawrence) Chapman, 81, of Sioux City went home to meet her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. She had several types of cancer, but bravely faced each and lived a full life until recently. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Coleen was born on June 1, 1931, to Leslie and Isabelle (Wahl) Lawrence, in Coon Valley Township, Sac County, Iowa. She grew up in and around Lake City and received her high school diploma from Lake City Community School. she then became a legal secretary, working for L.E. Swanson Law Office in Lake City.

After her marriage on Sept. 9, 1951, to Dan Chapman, she worked for a law firm in Chicago as he earned his doctor of optometry degree. She worked as a civil servant at Fort Chaffee, Fort Smith, Ark., while Dan served in the U.S. Army, then for the Elgar Law Office in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. After moving to Des Moines, Coleen became the bookkeeper for Dan's practice and was able to be a full-time homemaker, at which she excelled. After moving to Sioux City in 1965, she later became self-employed as Chapman Enterprises, owning and managing rental property.

Coleen excelled at running a home and raising her children. She and Dan entertained friends and family often. She was a fantastic seamstress and a superb cook. She took such good care of her family and was a true partner to her husband.

Coleen was very involved in her church, Central Baptist Church, where she served in many roles, including Vacation Bible School, circle, pictorial directory chair, wedding coordinator for 17 years and Awana's for 20 years. She was also involved in the community and her children's activities such as Girl Scouts cookie chair, Boy Scouts Den Mother, Mariners Synchronized Swimming worker, secretary of the Siouxland Rental Association, and Republican Party worker. She was a block worker for many charities including the March of Dimes, United Way, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She was a member of a ladies golf group at Sun Valley for many years and served as treasurer for the P.E.O. Chapter HZ. These activities brought much joy and many friends in to her life.

Surviving Coleen are her beloved husband, Dan; her daughter, Diane Lloyd (Richard) of Andrews, Texas; son, Tim of Sioux City; grandchildren, Kaitlin Lloyd of Raleigh, N.C., Nathan (Jennifer) Lloyd of Odessa, Texas, Brenna Jaco (Andrew) of Albuquerque, N.M., Caroline Lloyd of Portales, N.M., and Emily Chapman of Martinez, Calif.; her sister, Pat Schaffer of Lake City;and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Coleen in death are her parents, Leslie when she was 2 1/2, and Isabelle Lawrence Hoke; her second father, Ned Hoke; her brother, C.M. "Mike" Lawrence; and her son, Thomas Edward Chapman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Missions at Central Baptist Church, 401 Indian Hills Dr., Sioux City, IA 51108.
