SIOUX CITY | Michael Franklin Darrow Miller, 81, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his residence.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Dakota City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Born on April 29, 1931, in Emerson, Neb. He spent his childhood in Dakota City, with his parents Albert and Helen (Nellie) Miller along with his twin sister, Patricia, and older sister, Alberta. Mike graduated from Dakota City High School with the class of 1949. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mike served his country for 29 years, participated in much foreign service, including three tours in Vietnam, and retired with the rank of major. After his retirement, he moved to Orlando, Fla., and as he always said "started working for the Mouse" at Disney World, driving the steam engine train, giving rides to thousands of tourists in the happiest place on earth for 16 years.

In June 1979, Michael married the love of his life, Rose Hallihan Miller. They made the most beautiful couple on the dance floor, entering and winning multiple dancing contests and doing dance modeling on cruise ships in the Florida area. He dedicated eight years to her care after she was stricken with a heart attack. Mike moved to Bickford Cottage in 2007, where he lived until his death.

Mike is survived by his two daughters, Nancy A Miller-Mitchell of Sioux City, and Elizabeth Miller Ravan of Georgetown, S.C. and their families. Also, Rose’s entire family were as his own and his Bickford Cottage family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and three wives.
