SIOUX CITY | John T. Meyers, 60, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Countryside Nursing and Rehab Center.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned.

John was born on Nov. 20, 1951, in Sioux City, the son of Melvin and Rita (Adams) Meyers. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. After high school, he attended an auto mechanics school in Omaha. He later joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska near the end of the Vietnam War. He became a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator while in the service.

After returning home, he worked for many years with Brower Construction in Sioux City until health issues forced him into early retirement.

John enjoyed tinkering with cars, riding his motorcycle, playing cards, puzzles, playing with his dogs and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his lifelong companion, Geil Fargo; his siblings, Rose Brown, Helen (Darwin) Horton, Michael Meyers, Timothy (Cindi) Meyers, and Teresa (Terry) Honeycutt, all of Sioux City; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Joan Kelly and Betty Allen.
