SIOUX CITY | Herle Horace "Rick" Ferrell, 95, of Sioux City, formerly Willmar, Minn., Peoria, Ariz., Edina, Minn., and Ridgewood N.J., passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, in Sioux City.

Private graveside services will be in Sundland Memorial Park in Sun City, Ariz. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Herle was born on July 25, 1917, in Prinsburg, Minn. He graduated from Willmar High School and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant during World War II from 1941 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater.

Herle and Ann (Babe) Elizabeth Lien eloped on Nov. 27, 1937, in Milbank, S.D., and were just about to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. His lifelong career was with International Multi-Foods, where he amassed an impressive record of sales awards.

Herle was a devoted husband, dedicated father, and successful businessman. Herle was a passionate golfer and shot a hole-in-one at Lakes West Course on the seventh hole in Sun City, Ariz., on May 23, 1980; only to be followed by a second one a few years later.

Herle’s quick wit, kind heart and accomplished story telling would light up the world and the people who knew him. "It’s never too soon to do someone a kindness because you never know when too soon might become too late" was Herle’s motto, and he lived it daily.

Herle is survived by loving wife, Ann Elizabeth Ferrell; son, Mike (Terri) Ferrell of Sioux City; son, Tim (Patti) Ferrell of Inverness, Ill.; daughter, Pattie (John) Bajorek of Irvine, Calif.; grandchildren, Ann (Mark) Bonessi, Lara Ferrell, Alison Ferrell, John (Shawna) Bajorek, Eric (Kelly) Bajorek, Michael (Jen) Bajorek, Daniel Bajorek, Mark (Trish) Bennett, Nick (Johanne) Bennett, Scott (Alicia) Bennett, Aya Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Chris, Jacob, and Madison Bonessi, Remington Ferrell, Riley and Skyler Bajorek, Jack and Christian Bajorek, and Piper Bennett.

Herle was preceded in death by his mother, Mena Mouw; father, Henry Roelofs; stepfather, Wiley Buckman Ferrell; brother, Raleigh Ferrell; stepbrother, Bob Ferrell; daughter-in-law, Jane Ferrell; granddaughter, Sara Ferrell; and grandson, Jack Bennett.
