LAWTON, Iowa | Jent Monk, 51, of Benton, Ark., formerly of Lawton, passed away Aug. 13, 2012, from complications following a fall. Since 1987, he was a comedian and was known as J Medicine Hat.

A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Sergeant Bluff Community Center, 903 Topaz Drive. Memorial services will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Kroc Center, 2825 Y St., in Omaha. A celebration of life service was held Aug. 21 in Bryant, Ark. Jent was an organ donor and the body was cremated.

Jent was born on Sept. 21, 1960, in Sioux City, to S. Earl and Bonnie (Lukowicz) Monk. He was a graduate of Lawton-Bronson High School.

For 22 years, he was married to Carla J. Hinrichsen and they had four children. On Feb. 13, 1992, Jent married Tracy Runions in Little Rock, Ark. Jent began working at the age of 12 for Murray's Chick Store. He also worked for Dubuque Packing and while working there, he began his career as a comedian, working his day job and playing night clubs and other venues in the evening.

He loved being on stage and in 1987 began traveling full time as an entertainer. His sense of humor and sharp wit brought laughter to everyone he met. Jent had an endless passion for life. He loved to share his many stories concerning his work, travels and would captivate many with his incredible knowledge and recall of facts about history, film and music.

Jent was devoted to his daughters and they will dearly miss him as well as all his family, friends and fans.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy; his daughters, Jennifer Monk, Kelsie Monk Jones (Jared), and Lauren Monk, all of Sioux City; his mother and her husband, Larry Sparks of Dow City, Iowa; a brother, Kent (Nancy) of Omaha; a sister, Angela Lambert (Jerry) of Sergeant Bluff; a dear granddaughter, Liberty Monk; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Cody; his father; his stepbrother, Heath Sparks; and his grandparents.

Jent, you can lay down your microphone now and rest in peace.
