Donald R. Buckley, 54, of Sioux City, and Newcastle, Neb., died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be held 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Lodge in Stone State Park. Abiding by Don's wishes, he has been cremated. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements. Condolences may be made online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Don was born Dec. 6, 1956, in Sioux City, the son of Donald R. and Wanda F. (Sparks) Buckley. He grew up in Sioux City and attended East High School. He received his G.E.D. and joined the Job Corps. He served with the U.S. Marines and then the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he worked various jobs, including a commodities broker.

Don was an avid lover of life. In general, he always pulled for the underdog. In earlier years he was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Sioux City Eagle's Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Nichole and her husband, Micah of Sioux City, Sara of the Quad Cities, and Chantal of Newcastle, Neb.; his father, Donald Buckley Sr. of Sioux City; his fiancée, Donna Dalton of Newcastle; several grandchildren; a nephew, Richard Buckley; and The Brothers.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, Richard.
