Olga "Marie" Plaza, 94, of Sioux City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, in Sioux City.

Private graveside services will be held in Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Marie was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John L. and Mary Ann (Prochaska) Melichar. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, where she met and married John Plaza on June 28, 1944. He died on May 30, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. In 1999, Marie moved to Sioux City, where she made her home at NorthPark Senior Living.

Marie enjoyed her family, her friends at NorthPark, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Sioux City Symphony and the Sioux City Concert Course. She was a member of St. Ludmila Parish in Cedar Rapids her entire life until moving to Sioux City. She then became a member at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Plaza J.D. and his wife, Glenda of Sioux City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Michelle Skulley and her husband, Christopher and their son, Logan of Broomfield, Colo., Tome Hope and her husband, Andrew and their sons, Owen, Jacob and Henry of Waukee, Iowa, and Celina Plaza of San Francisco, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John L. Plaza, D.D.S.; her parents; three sisters; and a brother.

Memorials may be directed in her name to Bishop Heelan High School Building Fund.
