The Rev. Robert Condon, 85, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011, at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with his nephew, the Rev. John Jenkins (president of Notre Dame University), and his brother priests of the Sioux City Diocese concelebrating. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m., at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge.

Robert Michael Condon was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Fort Dodge. He attended school in Barnum, Iowa, and later at Corpus Christi Academy, where he graduated from high school. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946, serving during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge he attended minor seminary at Trinity College in Sioux City and Creighton University in Omaha. His major seminary studies took Bob to Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.

On May 26, 1956, he was ordained into the priesthood at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. In 1956, he served as temporary chaplain at Good Shepherd Convent in Sioux City. From 1956 until 1958, Fr. Bob was assistant pastor at St. Mary Parish in Ashton, Iowa. He was assistant pastor at St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll, Iowa, from 1958 until 1963, while also serving on the faculty and administration at Kuemper High School in Carroll from 1958 to 1964. He was pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Barnum from 1964 to 1966, while also serving on the faculty and administration of St. Edmond High School in Fort Dodge. While on duty outside the diocese, Fr. Bob completed graduate studies at St. Louis University, earning his doctorate. Fr. Bob was a faculty member at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City from 1968 until his retirement in 1998.

Survivors include his sister, Helen (Condon) Jenkins of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Julia (Ford) McHaley Condon; and a brother, Richard Condon.
