Jack L. Hemmelrick, 73, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Roach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jack was born Feb. 6, 1938 in Alcester, S.D., the son of John and Opal (Jones) Hemmelrick. He graduated from Alcester High School. Jack worked for a plumbing and heating company in Akron, Iowa, and also for Interbake Foods in Sioux City before becoming a construction manager in the Virgin Islands for 12 years.

He married Margaret Langley on Nov. 10, 1987 in Elk Point, S.D.

Jack was a "jack of all trades." He enjoyed mechanics and construction but his great passion was fishing. Jack was a very caring and giving man and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Sioux City; 10 children; numerous grandchildren; and a brother, Franklin and his wife Lillian Hemmelrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Greg, Shane, Brandon, Justin and Kylie Christenson and Shayna Ruehle.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
