Roy E. Headid, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital, following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Lucas Rice officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Roy was born March 11, 1925 in Winner, S.D., the son of Wolfe and Sadie (Stevens) Headid. The family moved to Sioux City when Roy was three years old. They farmed on the east side of Sioux City, and Roy graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the war, Roy began working at Union Freightways, where he met Delores Blass. They were married Feb. 11, 1950. She passed away on March 3, 1969 in Sioux City. Roy worked for PIE Transportation for many years and retired in 1978. He also owned the Swanson Apartments.

He was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, the Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Consistory and the American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Wisnieski and Stan Wisnieski of Sioux City; a son, Randy Headid and Cindy O'Neill of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Deana Bottei and her husband, Ed and Jared Wisnieski; and a great-granddaughter, Sadie Engel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; five brothers, George, Merch, Richard, Jim and Mahlon; and four sisters, Elizabeth Skaff, Emma Yates, Nellie Skaff and Jennie Mulneaux.

Pallbearers will be Jim Headid, David, Joe and Dan Skaff, Stan and Jared Wisnieski, Bill Mulneaux and Jerry Stevens.
