Richard W. Hardy, 83, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at his residence.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bev Wolfe and Evan Johnson officiating. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.

Richard was born on Jan. 1, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur Sterling and Viola Emma (Sasse) Hardy. He graduated from Central High School, was drafted into the U.S. Army, fought in the Korean War, and achieved the rank of sergeant. He was self-employed as a concrete contractor, home builder and landlord.

Richard married Helen A. Hall on May 15, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Helen preceded Richard in death on Dec. 26, 2004, after 50 years of marriage.

Survivors include his sister Joanne and George Taylor; four daughters and their families: Julie and Al, and Lindsey Stinson; Jana, John, Christopher, and Emily Sullivan; Joanne "Jodi," Sam, Max, and Jae Johnson; and Jayne and Phred, Sara, Ben, Zoe, and Isaac Linn, and Anna (Linn) and Mark Vestweber.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bruce.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
