Michael Lee Haupt, formerly of Sioux City, passed away May 27, 2012, in his sleep in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 835 Second Ave. NW, in New Brighton, Minn. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holcomb-Henry-Bomm-Purcell Funeral Home, 515 W. Highway 96 at Mackubin in Shoreview, Minn. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mike was born on Nov. 25, 1951, in Sioux Falls, to parents William Phillip Haupt (deceased) and Patricia Ann Haupt (Gatens). The family moved to Sioux City in the early 1950s, where Mike was the oldest brother to Stephen, Karen and Gregg. He attended Epiphany Grade School and Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, served as an altar boy and was active in Boy Scouts.

Mike married Vicki Plymate on Sept. 15, 2001, and they made their home in Arden Hills, Minn. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Iowa State University in 1974 and worked for 34 years designing computer circuits at Unisys in the Twin Cities. He was the proud holder of several patents for his inventions.

He was an avid target shooter, lifelong movie buff, amateur photographer and dog lover. Mike and Vicki enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and many friends.

Grateful for having shared his life is his loving wife, Vicki; his mother, Patricia of Sioux City; siblings, Stephen and his wife, Eleanor of Beavercreek, Ohio, Karen Thornton of Sioux City, and Gregg and his wife, Michele of Sioux City; beloved nieces, Amanda, Mary, Elizabeth and Katie; as well as three grandnieces, Sydney, Jade and Samantha. He became a loving stepfather to Vicki’s son, Derek, and his wife, Patti, of Diamond Bar, Calif., and doted on their daughter, Allison, and son, Christopher.
