Gloria Carnes, 77, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, with her loving family by her side.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 3939 Cheyenne Blvd., in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., in Sioux City. Gloria was born on April 11, 1934, in Sioux City, the daughter of Roy "Whitey" and Judith Larsen. She grew up in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School. Gloria met her future husband, Donald Carnes, in eighth grade at Hubbard Park.

On June 18, 1955, they married upon his return from the U.S. Army. They were blessed with 48 amazing years of marriage.

Her life passion was to be arm-in-arm with her lifelong sweetheart, Donnie, and being a wonderful mother to her four children. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in choir. Her hobbies included bridge club, boating, snow and cross country skiing, rollerblading, bicycling, walking, gardening, cooking, baking and spending time at her pool with her girlfriends. One of the greatest joys she and her husband shared together was riding on the Harley as well as traveling the U.S. and abroad.

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Todd Carnes and his wife, Angela of Omaha; daughter, Susan Brown and her husband, Greg of Omaha; son, Craig Carnes of Sioux City; daughter, Amy Flynn and her husband, Steve of Omaha; five grandchildren, Nicholas Boland of Minneapolis, Brooke Boland of Omaha, Luke and Zachary Flynn of Omaha, and Cole Carnes of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Kurt and Ty Larsen; and sister, Lois Nash.

She will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and her gentle smile and laughter.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Boland, Steve Flynn, Greg Brown and Bruce Nash.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Alzheimer's Association (www.ALZ.org).
