Joyce Elizabeth Grant, 98, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at a Colorado Springs hospital.

Per Joyce's request, private graveside services were held in Calvary Cemetery at Sioux City, with the Very Rev. Armand Bertrand, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, officiating. Joyce was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of David E. and Kathryn G. (Harney) Weaver. She grew up in Moville and graduated from Moville High School in 1931. She moved to Sioux City in 1932 and was a resident for over 50 years.

Joyce married Ernest Grant. He preceded her in death. Joyce was a dental assistant for Dr. Workhoven for about 20 years.

While living in Sioux City, Joyce was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She was a member of the National and State Associations of Dental Assistants.

Joyce was fortunate to have been able to live completely independent and totally in charge of her own life up until her time of death, which was simply her 98-year-old body growing tired and being ready to go home to be with the Lord.

Her true passion was knitting. She began knitting when she was 36 and was making an afghan at the time of her death. Many friends and family were the recipients of her knitting.

She is survived by many dear friends and family including children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, a wonderful brother, Burton, and his twin sister, Beverly, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as seven siblings.
