Her life journey began on Feb. 8, 1938, in Des Moines, as Joseph E. and Katherine (Novenski) Mullin welcomed their newborn daughter into their arms. Kay was the second of nine children in the Mullin family and she cherished the times spent with her siblings. After graduating from high school, Kay worked in Des Moines, and then joined her parents in Sioux City. She later worked in Omaha, where she attended the College of St. Mary's, and graduated in May 1975 earning her nursing degree to become a registered nurse.

She knew her calling in life was to serve. For more than 20 years, Kay devoted her life, her skills, her time and her care toward helping others. She lived her life without fear and was a devout member of the Catholic church. Kay enjoyed nothing more than being a mom, serving her Lord and serving others. She was active in many local organizations including Siouxland Mental Health Alliance, Woodbury County Democratic party, the League of Women Voters, Siouxland Blood Bank, and many others. Although her family and friends will miss Kay, her memory will never be forgotten.

To cherish her memory, Kay leaves behind her son, Tim and wife, Denise Renfeldt and her two granddaughters, Chandler and Katherine, all of Cedar Park, Texas; sisters and brothers, Mary Mullin of Sioux City, Joseph and wife, Rosemary Mullin of Des Moines, Helen Mullin of Yutan, Neb., Bill and wife, Pat Mullin of Okoboji, Iowa, Bill Babl of Plano, Texas, Tom and wife, Janet Mullin of Bloomington, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Katherine Mullin; brother, John; sister, Margaret Babl; sister, Therese and husband, Jerry Brittain; and nephew, Drew Mullin.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tim and the entire Wesleyan Nursing Home staff, as well as, Michael and Wesleyan Hospice, for their excellent care and compassion.
