She was united in marriage to Elmer Macklin on May 16, 1946. The couple started their family while farming near Thurston, Neb., and in 1950 moved to the Salix, Iowa, area where they continued to farm. Eva completed a bachelor's degree in education from Morningside College. Elmer and Eva enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Eva and her husband were active members of Salix Community Church and later of Sloan Congregational Church. She taught Sunday School and served in various leadership positions. They appreciated the work of all of the area churches and hosted an annual dinner to recognize the pastors' contributions to the community. In 2002, the couple moved to Odessa, where they faithfully attended The Potter's House Church. Eva loved to entertain church friends and visiting speakers. The Macklin home became known for fellowship and hospitality.
