Richard Huenink of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Feb. 25, 2012 at the Monarch in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A. Street, in Lincoln. Bryan Block will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Richard was born on March 13, 1932, to Dick and Hattie (VanderVen) Huenink, in Sioux City. He was always an extremely hard worker. Early in his life, he engaged in farming. From there he held various jobs, eventually retiring from Farmland in Crete.

Richard spent his leisure time taking his family on many trips across the United States. All of his kids fondly remember seeing sights from the back seat of a car. He greatly enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially Pitch, going to baseball games, and fishing. He taught all of his kids and grandkids the art of fishing. He was unwaivering in his loyalty to his family, always making sure they were provided for and always putting their needs before his.

Survivors include his daughters, Carol (Ken) VanGorp of Orange City, Iowa, Lisa (Troy) Henggeler of Lincoln, and Kristin (Jay) Irwin of Lansing, Kan.; son, Ken of Alton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann, Dorothy, Henrietta (Glen), Pearl and Edna (Lloyd); and brother, Harold (Evelyn).

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
