Lillie Emma Ewert, 97, of Pierson, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Pierson, Iowa, with the Rev. Lorene Glant officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Pierson. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rohdefh.com.

Lillie Emma Ewert was born Dec. 15, 1914, rural Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of W.K. and Anna M. (Hanfeld) Herbold. She grew up in the Pierson area, graduating from Pierson High School. After graduation from high school she worked in Sioux City. After working in Sioux City, she married Elmer Ewert at Salem Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Pierson area until their retirement. After retiring, they continued to live on their farm.

Lillie was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Sarah Circle. She was very devoted to helping with any church activities. She was active in the Mission of the Messiah, quilting projects for the church, remembering birthdays and special occasions for her family and friends. She was also a member of the Pierson P.T.A. Lillie was always willing to help her family and friends with anything that she could, and she was very faithful in reading daily devotions. Lillie was a hard-working homemaker who sought to do her best to assist her family and lending a helping hand to her friends.

Survivors include her three daughters, Karen A. Lund of Pierson, Iowa, Barbara Jane Ewert of Warwick, N.Y., and Patricia A. Ewert-Flannagan of Pierson; two grandsons, Terry (Tanya) Lund of Conroe, Texas, and Tracy Dean Lund of Sioux City; and a great-grandson, Drake Lund of Conroe, Texas. Lillie is also survived by numerous stepgrandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Herbold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; three sisters, Louise Edwards, Ella Elser and Irene Michaelson; and one brother, W.R. Herbold.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church Kitchen Restoration Project.
