Bernard was born on Sept. 8, 1926, in rural Lawton, the oldest son of Harry and Marie (Hageman) Zenor. He was baptized on June 16, 1927, and confirmed on May 24, 1942, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. After attending country school through eighth grade, he graduated from Lawton High School in 1944 and worked on his uncle's farm before he began farming on his own the following year. In the fall of 1945, he was the corn handpicking champion for the state of Iowa.

He married Mary Ann Carol Krause on March 3, 1946, in Lawton. The couple farmed just outside of Lawton until 2007, when they moved into town. Bernard was particularly proud of raising Belgian horses for many years in the 1970s and 1980s, and of his extensive gardening efforts, which he often shared with family and friends.

Bernard loved baseball and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed doing puzzle books, playing card games and dominoes, woodworking, reading and watching sports. He cherished time on his farm, fishing trips in Minnesota, visits with his daughter in Florida, farming with his son, Mort, and being with his wife and family.

A longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Bernard served in various leadership roles there. He was well-respected in the Lawton area and will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved the Lord and his family very much.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son, Mort (Bev) Zenor of Moville, Iowa; a daughter, Susan Brown of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Shari (Charles "Chip") Kiple of Sioux City, and their children, Lyndi, Grace and Clark, Andrew (Karen) Zenor of Nashville, Tenn., and their children, Hayden, Henry and Julianne, and Amanda (Ryan) Weathers of Ankeny, Iowa, and their children, Logan, Anna, Lucas, Katelyn and Audrey; his sisters, Lila Bremer of Moville, and Glenda Lorenz of Omaha; brothers. Arlen (Clarice) Zenor of Lawton, and Allen (Sonya) Zenor of Ponsford, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lindy Zenor; great-grandson, Bradley Zenor; sister, Marilyn Johnson; and infant brother, Darrell Zenor.
