Lyle Hanson Krall, formerly of Sioux City, died July 13, 2012, at Discovery Care Center in Hamilton, Mont., with his wife, Terri, by his side.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bitterroot Church of the Nazarene in Victor, Mont. Arrangements are under the direction of Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Lyle was born on Sept. 3, 1926, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He moved to Sioux City in 1929 when his father, Harvey, and uncles, Denver and Duane, opened Krall Brothers Autobody and Glass. He graduated from Central High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and saw action during World War II in the South Pacific. After military service, he attended the University of South Dakota and received his degree in journalism.

Lyle married Alice Osborne of Sioux City in 1947. They reared four children there and retired to Hamilton in 1989. Both of their families had found a happy home in Sioux City for more than three generations. Alice died in 1993. In 1995, he married Terri Rempp of Victor, Mont. They spent 17 years together. She was his caregiver for the last year of his life as he suffered from pulmonary fibrosis.

Lyle enjoyed being independent and his career choices reflected that independence. He joined Krall Brothers in 1949. In 1964, he purchased and ran Krall Paint and Picture Framing, becoming known for his craftsmanship as a framer. Two of his sons became craftsmen from his example. In 1972, he joined the Sioux City Agency of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as a financial representative. There he received the agency Man of the Year Award in 1975. He served the community through his membership in Sertoma International and as a Mason with Abu Becker Temple.

Dad was a lifelong golfer and student of the game. His home courses were the Sioux City Boat Club and the Hamilton Golf Club. He was an avid pheasant hunter and ace trap shooter. In the early 1960s, he began camping and fishing in the Rocky Mountains with Alice and the kids. He was an accomplished fly fisherman before fly fishing was cool.

Lyle was able to live his dream of retiring to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. There he enjoyed family, gardening, keeping up his acreage, Bible study, and his ever-present dog companions. We have lost one of the truly good men from this earth.

He is survived by his wife, Terri; sons, Ted (Sheri) of Rochester, Minn., Tom (Alice) of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Rick (Margaret) of Boone, Iowa; a daughter, Susan (Bruce) of Bozeman, Mont.; and his grandchildren, Charlie, Katie, Clayton, Tyler, and Khaleila.
