Marjorie A. Loyd, 92, of Hornick died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O’Kane officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today with a Scripture prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Chapel) in Onawa. Marjorie A. Loyd, the daughter of Richard and Josephine (Mary) Hudgel, was born on Dec. 25, 1919 in Anthon, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School until her freshman year when she transferred to Anthon Public School. She graduated in May 1937. Marge later attended Samuel's School of Cosmetology. After graduating, she received approval to practice from the Iowa State Board and worked in Anthon and later Spencer, Iowa.

On June 5, 1940, Marge was united in marriage to Eldred A. Loyd in South Sioux City. They started married life in Spencer, where her husband was employed in the banking business. Marge and Eldred lived in Memphis, Tenn., while he was in the military. After being discharged, the family moved to Hornick where they spent the rest of their years. Marge worked at the cafe in Hornick, then at the grocery store and in 1969 started working at the Hornick Post Office. She continued to work there for 20 years until her retirement.

Marge was a member of the American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 in Hornick. She was an honorary member of St. John’s Altar Society in Onawa and was an active member of contract bridge, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Judy (Ron) Sinn of Peoria, Ill., Larry Loyd of Hornick, and Janet (Stan) Golka of Tampa, Fla.; son-in-law, Dale Ronfeldt of Hornick; grandchildren, Dr. David Sinn of Hobart, Tasmania, Dana (Will) Olson of Peoria, Ill., Jennifer Corbin of Kingsley, Iowa, Kelley (Jeremy) Davidson of Fayetteville, Ark., Adam Ronfeldt of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ben Ronfeldt of Hornick, Lindsey Coley of Wilmington, N.C., Christina Golka of Tampa, Fla., and Caleb Golka of Tampa; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldred; infant daughter, Mary Frances; daughter, Karen Ronfeldt; grandchildren, Diane Rae Sinn and Shannon Golka; brothers, Lester, Clarence, Claude, Herman, Lawrence and Eddie; and sisters, Susan, Edith, Herma, Margaret, Mary Clare and Jeanette.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 in Hornick or St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa.
