Richard "Rick" Christensen, 64, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Gregg Davison officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Friends are invited to attend the graveside service. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Born on Sept. 27, 1947, in Sioux City, he was the son of Marvin and Angeline (Anglo) Christensen. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City and later from Morningside College. Rick taught school in Marathon, Iowa, for one year and then moved to South Sioux City, where he worked for the Park Place Restaurant and also worked at Perley Catering. For five years, he taught school and coached girls basketball and softball in Lost Nation before joining Farm Bureau as an affiliate for insurance in May 1977. He represented them in Iowa City for five years and then Atlantic, Iowa, before moving to Marshalltown with Montgomery Insurance Services in 1983. He later joined McRill, Stowell, Christensen Insurance Group, where he currently still was active in his partnership part-time.

Rick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs, catering for friends, barbecuing (especially the ribs and chicken), and solving the world's problems at the Maid-Rite and JD's Pub.

On Aug. 8, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia Rolfes in Akron, Iowa. To their marriage, two children were born, Matt of Elk Point, S.D., and Nichole Christensen and her husband David Waterhouse and their son Oscar, all of Marshalltown, He is also survived by his siblings, James (Darcy) Christensen of Cambridge, Minn., Ron (Nancy) Christensen of Prairie City, Iowa, Marvin (Ann) Christensen of the Phoenix, Ariz. area, and Sharon (Don) Hutchinson of Brainerd Minn.; sister-in-law, Janet Christensen of Sioux City; the Rolfes family; and numerous nieces nephews, and friends.

In death, he rejoined his parents; brother, Ed; aunt, Freda Kazos; and uncle, Jim Anglo.
