Cecille Elaine Hansen, 81, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital after a battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. The body will then be taken to First Lutheran Church for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Cecille was born May 30, 1930, on the farm in rural Jackson, Neb., the daughter of Carl M. and Elizabeth (Rassmussen) Hansen. She graduated from Waterbury (Neb.) High School. She received her teaching certificate at Wayne State Teachers College. She taught rural schools in Dixon and Dakota County. She received the Ak-Sar-Ben Homemaker Of The Year Award, the Dakota County Homemaker Award. On June 12, 1954, she was injured in an automobile accident and due to her injuries she was a paraplegic. She was a member of the Naval Reserves at the time of her accident.

She liked reading, crafts, playing cards. She lost her sight due to macular degeneration, but still enjoyed life and being with people. She loved her family and her nieces and nephews. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. She was also chairman of the Siouxland Handicap Association and a member of the Willis Nebraska Homemakers.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty O'Neill of Onawa, Iowa, and Martha Albercht of Ponca, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Grace Hansen of Sioux City, and Anna Marie Hansen of South Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and her many friends at Centennial Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren and Kenneth; and a sister, Joanne Nekola.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Les and Terry Albrecht, Gary O'Neill, Roger and Ron Hansen and Bob Nekola. Honorary pallbearers will be the other nephews and nieces.

Memorials in her name may directed to First Lutheran Church or the family.
