SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Lisa Marie Mead, 35, of Smithland died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will follow in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Root Funeral Home (formerly Willman Chapel) in Rodney, Iowa. Lisa Marie Mead, daughter of Joann McCullough, was born Jan. 13, 1977 in Trenton, N.J. She was born and raised in New Jersey until her family moved to Nebraska in 1989. Lisa graduated from South Sioux City High School with the Class of 1997. Following high school, Lisa worked for MCI in Sioux City and made her home in North Sioux City, S.D.

On May 31, 2008, Lisa met the love of her life, Brad Mead. Shortly after, Lisa and her two sons moved to Smithland with Brad. On Aug. 28, 2010, they were united in marriage. Lisa worked at Casey's in Sloan and recently had been working as a teacher's aide for Westwood Community School. She loved her job and continued working until her failing health forced her to quit.

Lisa was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and liked watching Jeff Gordon race. She enjoyed fishing, camping, tubing down the river, and crocheting. Her greatest love was children, especially her two sons. Lisa attended and was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, Nebraska. In recent years, she attended the Smithland United Methodist Church.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Brad of Smithland; two sons, James and Taylor Jorgensen of Smithland; mother, Joann McCullough of Smithland and her fiancé Ken Castaldo; father and mother-in-law, David and Linda Mead of Smithland; two sisters, Joanne Hinrickson and husband, Rustin of Smithland, and Katherine Bechtloff Holloway of South Sioux City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott Mead and wife Stacey of Smithland, and Allen Mead and wife Jessica of Mapleton, Iowa; one aunt, Bonny McCullough of Florence, N.J.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Lisa was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Bechtloff; maternal grandparents, Harry and Edna McCullough; and paternal grandparents, George and Delores Bechtloff.
