SIOUX CITY -- Eugene A. Poeckes Jr., 75, of Sioux City, formerly of Remsen, Iowa, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Eugene was born on Oct. 1, 1936, at Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Eugene Sr. and Myra (Pick) Poeckes. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School at Remsen in 1954. On Aug. 30, 1954, he entered the Army National Guard at Le Mars and was discharged July 31, 1962.

On June 6, 1964, he married Sharon Collins at Algona, Iowa. He was employed at Wilson Trailer in Sioux City, as a welder for 40 years.

Gene was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa, and the Catholic Order of Foresters since 1942. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.

Survivors include his two sons, Edward Poeckes and his wife, Sandi and their children, Anthony and Eric of Sioux City, and Kevin Poeckes of Paullina, Iowa, and his children, Kody and Jaden of Maurice, Iowa; and four brothers, Art Poeckes and his wife, Peg of Le Mars, Paul Poeckes and his wife, Sharon, Mark Poeckes and his wife, Pam and Dennis Poeckes and his wife, Kathy, all of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Teresa; one brother, Roger Poeckes; and two sisters, Geraldine Hilton and Jeanette Harpenau.

Pallbearers will be Bradley, Tommy, Chris, Cody, Anthony A.J. and Eric Poeckes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
